In this article, published in Tobacco Control, researchers studied youth susceptibility to the influence of social normal and behaviors deemed to be popular or trendy. This study examined teen’s perceived prevalence of e-cigarettes and cigarettes compared to actual rates. Read more here.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Office on Smoking and Health has published Best Practices User Guide: Health Communications in Tobacco Prevention and Control. New Cessation Toolkit for Medicaid Enrollees Available through ALA
The American Lung Association and The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center released an online toolkit aimed at helping officials and public health advocates increase coverage and access to evidence-based tobacco cessation treatments for Medicaid enrollees. The toolkit can be found here.
Asian Smokers’ Quitline Announces Launch of New Website & Resources
The update Asian Smokers’ Quitline is designed to provide immediate access to information and tools. The site also includes an online catalog of free materials, including fact sheets, flyers and posters. Many of these resources are available in Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese. Read more here.
Secondhand Smoke Infographic Released by Truth Initiative
Although cigarette-use rates are decreasing in the United States, the number of people impacted by secondhand smoke is staggering. Secondhand smoke causes premature death of 41,000 adults and more than 400 infants every year. Read more in this infographic from Truth Initiative.
FDA Seeks Comment on Tobacco Issues
In July 2017, the FDA announced a new regulatory plan for tobacco and nicotine. Comment periods are open on the following issues
Tobacco Product Standard for Nicotine Level of Combusted Cigarettes – On March 15, the FDA announced an ANPRM aimed at reducing nicotine in cigarettes to non-addictive levels. See the summary and submit comments here.
Regulation of Flavors in Tobacco Products – On March 20, the agency issued an ANPRM calling upon all stakeholders to share data, research and information. See the summary and submit comments here.
