A Tobacco-Free
Mission
The Buffalo County Tobacco Free Coalition is a volunteer organization dedicated to the reduction of commercial tobacco/e-cigarette use and its effects on the citizens of Buffalo County and south-central Nebraska. We work to maintain smoke-free/vape-free standards while raising awareness with our youth and adults about the dangers of using commercial tobacco and e-cigarette products.
2023 – 2025 Goals
1. Eliminate Secondhand Smoke/Aerosol Exposure
Address the environmental and health concerns that disposable vapes have on our community by collaborating with Buffalo County Youth to create a new campaign called “Trash the Vape”.
2. Eliminate Secondhand Smoke/Aerosol Exposure
Encourage and assist with updates for outdoor dining/bars/services that do not have vape-free language added to their current smoke-free policies.
3. Preventing Youth Initiation
Conduct 61 observational survey assessments of tobacco retail outlets in Buffalo County to gain better understanding of density, proximity, and marketing tactics used in our communities.
4. Promoting Tobacco Cessation
Increase the percentage of Buffalo County adults who are attempting to quit tobacco by providing Quitline resources and educational opportunities.
5. Coalition and Community Development
Increase community awareness of the Buffalo County Tobacco Free Coalition, our mission, and what we do.
A Message About
E-Cigarettes or Vapes
The FDA warns that e-cigarettes are not a safe, healthy or permanent way to quit smoking:
” E-cigarettes are not approved by the FDA as an aid to quit smoking and may expose users to some of the same toxic chemicals found in combustible cigarette smoke. “
Note: “Vapes” is a term often used to describe electronic smoking devices.
