New CDC Resource: Best Practices
User Guide on Cessation

CDC has released a new Best Practices User Guide focused on tobacco cessation. The guide focuses on population-based interventions as a strategy to increase access to proven cessation treatments and help more people quit for good.

Previously released guides cover topics such as health communication, health equity, program infrastructure and youth engagement. All of the resources can be found here.

FDA Deadline for Premarket Review Extended Until September

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have given tobacco manufacturers an additional four months to submit their e-cigarette and vaping products for premarket approval. As part of a federal court-mandated order, tobacco manufacturers would have been required to file premarket applications to the FDA by May 12, 2020; now they will have until September 9, 2020. HUD Releases Materials to Promote National Healthy Homes Month

The U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has created a digital toolkit with materials and resources to support promotion of National Healthy Homes Month (NHHM) in June. NHHM is a great opportunity to highlight the importance of a smoke-free home. Read more here.

CDC’s Office on Smoking and Health (OSH) has released a formatted PowerPoint deck to provide partners with a resource that can be used to promote the Surgeon General’s report on cessation. Find more information here.

FDA Releases New Tobacco Compliance Webinars for Importers & Manufacturers

The FDA has released two new webinars as part of its tobacco compliance webinar series. The webinars update importers and manufacturers on enforcement priorities for ENDS and other deemed products and the updated application deadline for premarket review.

Rebecca C. is one of the newest former smokers to share her story for the Tips® campaign. She didn’t know that smoking cigarettes could lead to Buerger’s disease, which would cause her to have five of her toes amputated. But in her tip, Rebecca lets people know that it can really happen.

Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids (CTFK) has released English and Spanish versions of a PSA discussing the health link between smoking/vaping and COVID-19.

FDA Commentary: Youth E-Cigarette Use & the Agency’s Multi-Faceted Approach

The American Journal of Public Health has published a commentary from the FDA highlighting the efforts the agency has put in place to combat youth e-cigarette use. The approach consists of public education, compliance and enforcement, an investment in research and a rigorous science-based approach to regulation. Read more here.

The Nebraska Tobacco Quitline offers free, confidential support for those interested in quitting tobacco while allowing callers to maintain safe social distancing. Cessation support is available 24/7 by phone and free nicotine replacement therapy is mailed directly to the caller’s home. Fliers are available here:

Counter Tools has released an infographic showing FDA state violation rates of tobacco product sales to minors including e-cigarette sales, looking at FY2019 compared to FY2018. Read more here.

ANRF Updates U.S. Municipalities & States with Smoke-Free Law Maps

The American Nonsmokers’ Rights Foundation has released their quarterly update of maps which cover laws in the areas of clean air, e-cigarettes, marijuana and tobacco sales in pharmacies. Read more here.
