Tobacco Free Nebraska is passing along information regarding LB1013. LB1013 is the bill that would change the tax on cigarettes and other tobacco products.
The hearing started on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at 1:30 pm. but due to a power outage at the capitol the bill hearing had to be rescheduled. The hearing will continue on Wednesday, February 24 at 1:30.
The bill would, among other actions:
- Increase the Nebraska cigarette tax from 64 cents per pack to $2.14 per pack ($1.50 increase);
- Increase the tax on other tobacco products other than snuff from 20 percent of wholesale to 31 percent of wholesale; and
- Appropriate $30 million in revenue from the tax increase to several public health efforts as well as appropriate revenue towards property tax relief.
